Due to recent events, IST put stringent sanitation and disinfecting processes in place within the service centers we support.  As customers learned of the additional steps we were taking to keep our employees safe, these processes quickly evolved into a full-fledged service offering.

Our HR and safety teams developed a Sanitizing & Disinfecting Services (SDS) training program, providing access to updated technical data, CDC recommendations,  and continuously advising SDS team members on both ongoing and seasonal best practices.

Even though work areas are presumed to be cleaned and free of viruses or germs, chances of someone being exposed to harmful contagions should be considered high - for those who do not have a regular SDS program in place, they are much higher.

In all workplaces, institutions or other areas constantly filled with people, there is undoubtedly illness, contagions and other harmful bacteria impacting the employees necessary for a productive workflow.

A necessary supplement to standard janitorial services.

The terms “cleaning,” “sanitizing,” and “disinfecting” are sometimes used interchangeably when describing removing visible debris from an area. However, there are differences among these three terms.

Cleaning involves straightening up and removing visible soil and nonvisible germs (e.g., bacteria, viruses and protozoa) from an area or object. Cleaning does not usually kill germs but instead reduces their presence by removing them. Cleaning typically involves mechanical action (i.e. wiping or scrubbing) and use of a general cleaner such as soap and water.

Sanitizing and disinfecting involves killing germs on a surface or object. Surfaces and objects should be cleaned before being sanitized. This process does not necessarily clean dirty surfaces or remove germs, but by killing germs on a surface after cleaning, it can further lower the risk of spreading infection.

IST’s SDS team members:

  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily including doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, sinks
  • Utilize Isopropanol-based cleaners with at least 70% alcohol, Quaternary Ammonium Compounds and/or Bleach on frequently touched surfaces based on customer preference.
  • Allow cleaners to sit on a surface for between 1 – 10 minutes before wiping to ensure the surface is fully disinfected.

* SDS services may require additional labor based on current needs. IST’s Operations Team will conduct an analysis to determine if additional labor is needed.  All supplies for SDS services are to be provided by the customer.
